District Memorial Awards For Clubs
S. Phil McCardwell Early Club Builder Award

This award, initiated by his home Club, Louisville-Dixie, in memory of Past Optimist International President
S. Phil McCardwell, provides funding for the presentation of a Life Membership to the first new Club
chartered in each fiscal year.

At the first quarter District conference (October) of the new fiscal year following the organization of the new
Club, the Governor shall present an award to the new Club toward the purchase of a Life Membership.  The
new Club's Board of Directors shall determine the recipient (e.g. the Charter President, Key Builder, etc.).

Steve and Ruth McCoy Membership Award

Originally established with a bequest by Past Governor Steve McCoy in memory of his wife Ruth, the award
name was changed at the request of their son Terry to include Steve after his death.  The proceeds of the
fund are used to provide an annual award of $100 to the winning Club.

The award is to be presented by the Governor at the 3rd quarter District conference (May) to the Club
enrolling the most new members during the first six months of the fiscal year (total number added, not net
gain).  In the event of a tie, the Club with the highest percentage of new members added (based on the Club's
October 1 membership) will receive the award.  At the discretion of the Governor, surplus proceeds, if any,
may be utilized for District membership promotion.

Dr. James Bryan Youth Service Award

This award recognizes outstanding Club service to youth through Optimism.  The annual award of a traveling
trophy and $100 will be presented to the winning Club based on the judging of all youth projects conducted
and completed from October 1 through September 30.

The judging criteria:  1) number of youth served; 2) quality of service, including man-hours devoted and
funds expended.  Project information must be verifiable through the Club's President's Pride report (due by
September 30).  Pure fund-raising projects do not qualify for consideration.

The Club should submit brief resumes of their projects.  Judging will take place as the October District
conference.  Entries should be left at the conference registration desk or delivered in advance to the District
Activities Chair.

Entries must include the Club name, Club number, name, address, telephone number and email address of
the Club President and Secretary, and the name and a brief description of each project.  Within the
description, include the number of youth served, number of man-hours devoted and the total cost of each
project.  Also include the total of youth served, man-hours devoted and total cost for all projects.
